About AIESEC

Young, professional, progressive, innovative and global. AIESEC (pronounced eye-sec) is the world's largest student-managed, non-profit educational organisation.

Since our creation in 1948, we have been dedicated to helping young people around the globe develop themselves and their countries. Our focus is on developing individuals who can impact on society; we do this by involving people in unique exchange programmes and related projects.

The process of exchanging young people around the world is the core of what we do - we believe that the best way to develop future leadership is to let people experience the challenges of culture, society, and management for themselves. Underlying everything we do is a drive to make a positive contribution to society.

Today, with more than 50,000 members, most of whom are undergraduates who voluntarily give their service while attending university, we are active in 730 academic institutions in 87 countries.

We enjoy working partnerships with a wide variety of companies, as well as with non-government and government organisations.

Nature
AIESEC is an international, non-political, non-profit, student-run, independent, educational association. It is comprised of students and recent graduates of institutions of higher education who are interested in economics and management. AIESEC does not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, sex, creed, religion, national or ethnic origin.

The core of AIESEC

At International Congress 1997, AIESEC agreed on a set of principles that improve the focus and operations of our local activities. They are called the Core of AIESEC and, when used to focus activity, they create a fully unified global organisation where better results come from increased international co-operation.

To focus all our energy on developing individuals for an impact on society means that AIESEC activities will create opportunities and situations for people to learn from. These experiences will allow people to actively contribute to our communities, now and for the future.

The full exchange process is a life-long learning process where experiences come from an involvement with AIESEC activity. Traineeship exchange is a fundamental part of the exchange process because it creates a very powerful opportunity for learning - for trainees, and the people they come in contact with.

When creating opportunities for students of higher education (university and other tertiary institutions) to learn, we are focusing on the people who are most likely to have a future impact on society. These are the people who will eventually lead future corporate, government, and non-government organisations.

Global Results

AIESEC uses the global results to help us understand some of the leadership characteristics youth need to develop. They represent some skills, values and attitudes that successful activity will develop in people. The global results are:

Focus Areas

We can use the focus areas to help us understand the different issues AIESEC is focused on globally. They represent areas that AIESEC believes are most relevant for societal change.

For activity development, AIESEC's focus areas can be used to help link activity into the global network. If an activities addresses issues within our focus areas they will help achieve the global results, and there will be more opportunities for support and international co-operation (because other similar AIESEC activities will exist). The focus areas are:

Corporate Social Responsibility
Cultural understanding
Entrepreneurship
Higher Education and Learning
